James Yun, MD

Otolaryngologist

Dr. Yun has been taking care of patients in Roseburg since 2006, after completing his Residency in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Florida.  During his training, the program was privileged to be ranked 19th in the country among ENT programs.  Dr. Yun was named the “Resident teacher of the year” by his peers, and the whimsical “golden ear award” for scoring 100th percentile in on the otology portion of the national resident inservice exam that year, and 96th percentile overall a distinction rarely achieved.

 
He grew up on the east coast,  in Connecticut,  and earned a BS in biology from Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL.  He completed medical school at Hahnemann/Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA.  After medical school, interned at Naval Medical Center, San Diego in surgery.  He then served three years in the Navy as a Navy/Marine Corp flight surgeon in Iwakuni, Japan, where he took care of pilots, aircrew and their families. 
 
Upon completing  Otolaryngology (Ear, Nose, and Throat) residency at the University of Florida,  Dr. Yun chose to join Dr. Carl Schreiner in Roseburg out of an admiration for the beauty of Oregon and seeking to raise his family of 5 children away from the hustle and bustle of city life in rural Douglas County. 
 
Dr. Yun practices general otolaryngology.  Among his special interests are endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS), Allergy, thyroid/parathyroid surgery, Surgery for Chronic Ear Disease and facial plastics and reconstructive surgery.  Although very busy as a solo practitioner (Currently seeking a new partner), he loves the relationships he is able to develop with is patients, and giving them quality, personal care.
 
Outside of work, he is a husband and the father of five amazing children.  He is a founder and permanent board member at Geneva Academy, a classical Christian school in Roseburg.  He is an outdoor enthusiast enjoying skiing, hiking and fly-fishing among many other things!
